Beli Maya is born in 1990. She lives with her 3 children, father and mother in a small house in a rural area a few miles from Hetauda, a district capital in the south of Nepal with 150.0000 inhabitants. Because she had no work or income and she wanted to provide school and food for her children she went to work In Qatar in 2018. She was promised a salary of €350 per month.
Arrived in Qatar she got paid €50 per month, had to handover her passport and had to work 12 hours everyday in the Khalifa football stadium. She did not receive lunch and when Covid arrived in Qatar she was forced in quarantine for 6 months, a period in which she got no salary and had to pay for her own food. In 2020 she was put back on a plane to Nepal with debts instead of a future for her children.
We met Beli Maya for the first time in April 2022. She was unhappy, still in debts and was thinking of going back to Qatar because there was no alternative. In November 2022 she went back to Qatar to work as a maid. We stayed in contact and convinced her to return to Nepal and helped her start her own little taxi company. In October 2023 she returned to Nepal were we met her for the second time in November 2023. She is the proud owner of the first electric TukTuk in Heatauda and is able to take care for her family. And she is happy now.
